So I was sitting here, minding my own business, when out of nowhere comes this really loud explosion! Now things like this are not unheardof around here – there are lots of horns, trucks, motorcycles, and cars backfiring, lots of unexplained noises here. So at first I didn’t really think much of it. Then it happened again, and again, making all the windows rattle and the ground shake (a little). It seemed to be coming from all around the house, I was pretty sure Lima was getting bombed or something. Sweet Jesus, I thought. Then I remembered – fireworks!
Apparently, there is a very good reason why in Kingston, Toronto, and Oakville, whenever there are fireworks they do them way out over the lake. First of all, so that people can see them, no buildings in the way. Second of all, to mute the really loud noise of friggin’ gunpowder, and third, to stop the noise from echoing off of ALL the buildings. Fourth, to get rid of the smoke! In Lima, we have lots of air pollution from dirty cars, and a permanent fog from the ocean. We do not need smoke from fireworks to add to the mix!
