Went to a church downtown, apparently it’s Lima’s oldest convent. It’s a convent for Dominican monks (who might or might not guest star in the Museum of the Inquisition), and currently has 45 brothers residing there. Who knew that monkhood was still popular these days? I saw one or two of them and was disappointed that they weren’t wearing cotton robes. Or burlap sacks.
Well turns out you can take a tour, so I did, and it’s quite a nice little convent. They were very proud of the woodwork and the tiles on the walls and all that architecture stuff.
They also had little chapels, dedicated to the saints. The guide spoke hilarious English, but what I think he said was that only two saints were Peruvian, San Martin and Santa Rosa.
That sculpted ceiling is pretty amazing.
Just a point to note: Convents are for nuns. Monks live in Monasteries.

Not in Spanish! they have different rules here. it’s called el Convento de Santo Domingo. I’m not sure if they have any nunneries around here anyways.
