The other place I visited today was a clinic for children with physical and mental disabilities. Also quite sad, especially if you consider why the place exists at all.
One of the things I’ve discovered in my travels is often people around who seem relatively intelligent have a low level of education, even if they had completed high school or even university. In this case, it’s distressing how little people know about children with disabilities. Often, it’s considered a punishment from God if you have a handicapped children. They are regarded with disdain and sometimes not cared for at all. Even amongst the families that want to care for their children, they often have no idea what to do, or why their children may behave strangely, and have almost no resources available for them to learn.
Thusly, the center exists. And we send volunteers there.
