Cents

In Canada and the US we have all kinds of slang for money: moola, bling, greenbacks, dough, bucks, etc.  Here is some fun Peruvian slang for money:

  • Plata – money in general (instead of dinero) – means “silver”
  • Una China – 50 cents – means “a Chinese girl”
  • Una Luca – 1 sol
  • Un Coco – 1 American dollar – means “coconut”
  • Una Luca Gringa – also 1 American dollar – means “a white man’s sol”
  • Un Chupo de Plata – a lot of money – literally means “a pimple of money”
  • Un Culo de Plata – also a lot of money – literally means “a butt of money”
  • Un Huevo de Plata – a really lot of money – literally means “an egg of money”
