Manchay

What I learned today was that The Milk of Sorrow (La Teta Asustada), the Oscar-nominated Peruvian film, was filmed in Manchay, a poor shantytown on the outskirts of Lima.  Incidentally, this is where Jose Carlos Mariategui School is, one of the poor schools that we send volunteers to.  I also learned that about 3,000 people from the region of Manchay took part in the film.

Incidentally, the lead actress and the director both need to get a visa before they are able to attend the Oscars.  Imagine if they aren’t approved?  We think your film is good enough to enter our country and be awarded, but you’re not allowed to come here to collect your prize.
